Therapeutic Provision and Wellbeing

At Mount School, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, understood and connected. Our therapeutic provision is embedded throughout every aspect of school life, creating an environment where every interaction supports emotional wellbeing, personal growth and successful learning.

Our approach is relationship-based, trauma-informed and tailored to the individual needs of each learner. We recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and work alongside pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and independence through positive relationships and personalised support.

Our experienced staff create calm, nurturing learning environments using attachment-aware practice, restorative approaches, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), sensory-informed strategies and personalised interventions. Therapeutic support is not something that happens separately from learning—it is woven into every lesson, every conversation and every opportunity throughout the school day.

Pupils may access a wide range of therapeutic interventions depending on their individual needs. These may include emotional literacy and regulation programmes, social skills development, executive functioning support, mentoring, counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), play-based interventions, art therapy, LEGO® Therapy, therapeutic storytelling, restorative conversations and personalised SEMH programmes. Our trained therapy dog also plays an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing, reducing anxiety, encouraging communication and helping pupils develop confidence and positive relationships.

Alongside therapeutic interventions, pupils access wellbeing and personal development programmes including My Happy Mind, MyMindCoach, outdoor learning and Forest School. Our low-arousal classrooms, sensory regulation spaces and nurturing environments provide opportunities for pupils to regulate, reflect and reconnect with learning throughout the school day.

Everything we do is underpinned by our vision:

Safe • Connected • Ready to Learn

Because we know that when children feel safe, connected and valued, they are ready to thrive both in school and beyond.
